The 21-Day and 90-Day Rules for Your Subconscious Mind
The human brain is a complex and fascinating organ that controls our thoughts, feelings, and actions. It has been said that we only use a small fraction of our brain's potential, and unlocking its full power can lead to incredible achievements. One way to harness the power of the brain is through the subconscious mind, which is responsible for storing our beliefs, habits, and behaviours.
The 21-day and 90-day rules are two popular theories that relate to the subconscious mind. The 21-day rule suggests that it takes 21 days to create a new habit, while the 90-day rule proposes that it takes 90 days to create a permanent lifestyle change.
Let's take a closer look at each of these theories and how they relate to the subconscious mind
The 21-Day Rule
The 21-day rule is based on the idea that it takes about three weeks to form a new habit. This theory was first popularized by Dr Maxwell maltz, a plastic surgeon who noticed that it took his patients about 21 days to adjust to their new physical appearance. He then applied this principle to other areas of life, such as creating new habits or breaking old ones.
The 21-day rule is not a hard and fast rule, as some people may be able to form a new habit in less time, while others may take longer. However, it is a good guideline to follow when trying to develop new habits.
To create a new habit, it is important to consistently practice the desired behaviour for at least 21 days. This means making a conscious effort to repeat the behaviour every day until it becomes automatic. Over time, the subconscious mind will accept this behaviour as normal and incorporate it into its belief system.
The 90-Day Rule
The 90-day rule builds upon the 21-day rule and suggests that it takes about three months to create a permanent lifestyle change. This theory is based on the idea that it takes time for the subconscious mind to fully adopt a new belief or behaviour and make it a permanent part of one's identity.
While the 21-day rule focuses on forming a new habit, the 90-day rule emphasizes the importance of consistency and persistence in maintaining that habit. After 90 days of consistently practicing a new behaviour, it becomes a natural part of one's daily routine, and the subconscious mind fully accepts it as a part of one's identity.
For example, if someone wants to become a regular exerciser, they can use the 21-day rule to create a new habit of going to the gym every day. After 21 days, going to the gym will become a part of their routine, and they will feel uncomfortable if they miss a day. However, to make this a permanent lifestyle change, they need to continue going to the gym consistently for at least 90 days, and this then will become their regular habit.
CONCLUSION
The 21-day and 90-day rules are helpful guidelines for creating new habits and making permanent lifestyle changes. By consistently practicing a new behaviour for at least 21 days, it becomes a part of one's routine, and the subconscious mind accepts it as normal. After 90 days of consistent practice, the behaviour becomes a permanent part of one's identity.
Remember, changing habits and behaviours takes time and effort, but the rewards are well worth it. By unlocking the power of the subconscious mind and creating new positive beliefs and behaviours, you can achieve your goals and live your best life.
